ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This is a small group, lab-style workshop capped at 12 participants. You will rotate through hands-on stations covering core components of tissue culture workflow, including sterilizing explants and/or seeds, and working in a laminar flow hood.
You will leave with cultures you started yourself, printed reference materials, and a working understanding of what it takes to run a clean tissue culture operation.

- Sterile technique and contamination prevention
- Working under a laminar flow hood
- Explant preparation and culture initiation
- Practical troubleshooting - what contamination looks like and what to do about it
WHO THIS IS FOR
Any one and every one who is interested in plant tissue culture. No prior TC experience is required. All experience levels are welcome. The workshop is designed to provide useful information not only to beginners but to experienced operators as well.
INSTRUCTOR
Chad Ternes, PhD - Formally trained as a synthetic biologist. Currently works as a research scientist and teaches undergraduate synthetic biology at CSU. Chad has over 15 years of experience in research and teaching, ranging from high school to PhD candidates. He was worked with numerous types of plants including algae, moss, and crop species.
